Graham Potter rues Chelsea performance following Newcastle defeat

Graham Potter has admitted that his Chelsea side are in a 'bad moment' and need to use the World Cup break to regroup, following a 1-0 defeat away at Newcastle that saw the Blues fall to eighth in the Premier League table.

After a bright start to life at Stamford Bridge, Potter's side have struggled in recent games and are now without a win in five games, highlighting a seriously rocky patch of late.

Chelsea's performances have been disjointed and lacking in attacking punch, while Potter's team selections have come under scrutiny.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Potter said: "First half, I thought there were too many unforced errors. Newcastle play with huge intensity, they're in a good moment and you could see the difference between the two teams in terms of the schedules that both of us have had in terms of running power and intensity.

"They started the second half well, pushed us back and we had to alter things a little bit then.

"We got back into it, but then they scored and then it's difficult because it was a relatively tight game."

The atmosphere around Chelsea seems more than a little bleak at present, but Potter refused to dwell on the result and said his side would simply have to press on.

"It's not nice for us, we're in a bad moment and we need to lick our wounds," he admitted.

"We'll use the break to recharge, regroup and go again."
