Premier League confirms mid-season break stance for 2023/24

The Premier League has confirmed that the 2023-24 season will take place from 12 August 2023 to 19 May 2024, with a mid-season player break between January 13 and 20.

The final round of fixtures will be played on Sunday, 19 May 2024, when all matches will kick off simultaneously as usual.

Players involved in the 2024 Champions League final on June 1 will have fewer than two weeks to prepare for Euro 2024, however, which kicks off on June 14. Other Premier League stars appearing in the tournament will have under four weeks to ready themselves.

Overall, the season schedule now essentially returns to normal following the COVID-19 pandemic and this year's winter break caused by the World Cup in Qatar, which have both provided disruption and caused fixture congestion during the past three seasons.

As a result of commitments made to Premier League clubs to address concerns over the packed schedule across the Christmas and New Year period, the league has also announced that no two rounds of fixtures will take place in the same 48-hour window.

The current season is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, May 28, meaning a 76-day gap for players between the end of the 2022-23 campaign and the new season.

This year's Premier League will halt temporarily after matches on November 13, before resuming on Boxing Day, December 26.

The Qatar World Cup will take place from November 20 until the final on December 18.
