VIO Officials Allegedly Brutalized Man, Punch Delta Chief's Left Eye Over N5000 Bribe (Graphic Photos)

On Wednesday November, 16, a 43-year-old man identified as Roro Enaohwo, was allegedly beaten to coma, by officials of the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) who went ahead to punch the left eye of an Udu palace Chief, Monday Koru and tore his traditional beads over alleged N5,000.00 bribe in Udu LGA of Delta State.

According to a shocking report by DailyPost, Roro Enaohwo who is critically injured, has been hospitalized and receiving treatments at Divine Mercy Clinic in Ovwian, while an eye test has been conducted on Chief Monday Koru with a medical report to show.

Speaking to a correspondent on condition of anonymity, a nurse with Divine Mercy Clinic, stated that the Medical Director of the Clinic had concluded an X-ray on Enaohwo stressing that, “It is the result that will show if Enaohwo has internal bleeding and if he will be referred to another hospital for further treatments.”

Roro Enaohwo was attacked and beaten to coma while in company of his boss, Chief Monday Koru, a car dealer to the office of the VIO to plead on behalf of a commercial tricycle operator who was unlawfully apprehended and asked to part with a N5,000 bribe by the VIO officials.

It was gathered that Chief Monday Koru pleaded with VIO to settle the case of the tricycle operator for peace to reign by accepting N3,000, but the Head of the VIO (name withheld) sent his subordinate to follow him (Chief Koru) to his house in his car to collect the money.

Two hours later, the tricycle operator reported back to the office of Chief Monday Koru that his tricycle had not been released to him by the VIO official after they collected the three thousand naira.

Pained by the development, the chief and his boys approached the VIO Officials requesting for the release of the tricycle but they said he must pay the remaining N2000 before the release of the tricycle.

The development resulted in a hot argument between Chief Monday Koru and the VIO official who allegedly attacked him and his boys. Chief Koru with one of his boys managed to escape from the premises of the VIO who locked their gate but his boy, Roro Enaohwo was not lucky as he was beaten blue and black.

Sensing that they have committed an offence when Roro Enaohwo had gone into coma, Officials of the VIO started pouring cold water on him with a view to reviving him but it took the intervention of the Police from Ovwian /Aladja Police Divisional Headquarters on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Dike Albert Uchechi to rescue the victim and rushed him to Divine Mercy Clinic in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Narrating his own side of the incident to our reporter, Chief Monday Koru said, “V.I.O arrested a keke driver and my attention was called to the matter and when I got there, I pleaded with three thousand naira, but the cash was not with me there so the person in charge asked one of his boys to follow me to my office to collect the three thousand naira.

“After two hours, they didn’t release the keke , so I went back to their office and the person in charge walked me out of his office and asked me why I didn’t knock before entering his office, and that I should pay five thousand naira before he release the keke while the three thousand is with them , then his boy started beating me and my boys up.One of my boys was beaten up almost to the point of death, the boy has internal bleeding now, it was the intervention of the police that the boy was rescued and he his currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Meanwhile, the money and the Keke are still with them.”

The Public Relations Officer of Udu Union of Communities, Chief Andrew Oyovwiraye accused the VIO Officials of allegedly perpetuating criminality and demanding bribes from road users instead of their vehicle particulars, stressing, “I was a victim last week. I had to query them before I left them.”
