Man Utd charged with failing to control players for second time in two weeks

Manchester United have been charged by the FA for failing to control players for the second time in quick succession following Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

United conceded a late penalty in the game at Stamford Bridge when Scott McTominay, just on as a substitute intended to make things more solid, wrapped his arms around Armando Broja in the penalty area. The Chelsea forward fell to the floor and the referee pointed to the spot.

There could be little complaint about the decision, but several United players still rushed to confront the man with the whistle, Stuart Attwell.

In the end, United still managed to secure a point when Casemiro’s powerful late header crept over the line after it has been tipped onto the woodwork by Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

An FA statement read: “Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October 2022 in the Premier League.

“Manchester United FC allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response.”

United were charged with a breach of the same rule following the 0-0 draw with Newcastle earlier this month, which saw Cristiano Ronaldo score a goal that was then disallowed.
