The Shocking Story of How Church Pushed Lawyer to Murder His Wife and 3 Children

The police have revealed details of how a young lawyer, Paul Magu, in 2014 December, brutally killed his wife and children before throwing himself in front of a bus that was heading to Nairobi from Garissa and died.

Magu (35) allegedly killed his wife Lydia Wangui (35) and children Allen Muhiu (9), Ryan Ndau (8), and Tiffany Wambui (5), in November before apparently committing suicide along Thika Road by jumping in front of a Garissa-bound bus.

He left a suicicide note stating, “I cannot live a life of ridicule and embarrassment. Let it be.”

Police say that Magu was pushed by the teachings of a religious cult to kill his wife and their three children, Allen, Ryan and Tiffany.

According to The Nairobian, Magu had led a flashy lifestyle as a young lawyer and had everything a man of his age could wish for – a beautiful wife, three lovely children, cars and a five-bedroom house in a nice neighborhood. He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2001.

Some of his former classmates are lawyers Kethi Kilonzo, Philip Nyachoti and Catherine Nyambura Njuguna.

In 2007, he met a female pastor who introduced him to a church based in Nigeria where he started visiting together with the pastor.

In 2009, he stopped working as a lawyer to “concentrate on spirituality.” He also stayed away from his relatives and friends and did not allow his children to mingle with the neighbours.

At his house in Muthaiga Pipeline estate, he had a room that he used as a shrine, and where relatives and the house help said he spent most of his time with Wanyoro. The room had several religious materials that included teachings on curses, misery and wealth, CDs and books.

For four days, between November 16 and November 19, it is said Wanyoro stayed at Magu’s home and performed what was described by the house help as ‘cultist rituals.’

Magu’s passport also revealed that he travelled to Nigeria more than 20 times since 2009.

Magu’s family believe he may have been brainwashed by the cult since he had earlier asked a neighbour whether he was willing to take care of his children in case he died.
