Court cases: Showunmi, Lawal mere distractions – Ogun PDP women

The women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has reacted to the different court cases rocking the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The women, under the aegis of Lado Ladies of Integrity, said everyone who has taken the party to court to challenge the candidacy of Ladi Adebutu and others are mere detractors who do not want the success of the party.

They alleged that different plaintiffs were being used by some politicians to prevent the PDP from participating in next year’s elections in Ogun.

Recalls that the likes of Segun Showunmi and Jimi Lawal, who are governorship aspirants have taken the PDP to court.

While Showunmi is seeking the dissolution of the Sikirulahi Ogundele-led State Working Committee of the PDP, Lawal is challenging the delegate list used for the primary elections held in Ogun.

Also, three members of the party recently got a judgment at an Abeokuta Federal High Court, nullifying all PDP primary elections in Ogun for a fresh one; a ruling that has since been appealed by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

But, the PDP women urged Ogun residents not to be perturbed by the court cases, saying Adebutu would win any primary election conducted in the state.

Speaking at the official inauguration of the group at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, the President of the Lado Ladies of Integrity, Mrs Wuraola Arojo, said: “For any journey with a successful and productive end, there will be a lot of distractions. People don’t need to look at that because we have a focus. They (the litigants) just want to distract our attention, but we are not ready for that. These people are mere distractors. We know them

“We know Ladipupo Adebutu is going to win even if another primary is conducted anytime, no matter what,” Arojo said.

She, however, revealed that the NWC decided to appeal the judgment nullifying the PDP primary elections after carefully studying it.

According to her, the party, having gathered intelligence and listened to legal advice refused to fall into a “trap” set by the litigants.

“We know that God is on our side. No matter what, I am sure very soon everything will be clear. Adebutu is our candidate,” she said.

In her words, Mrs Adenike called on governments at all levels to prioritize the issues affecting the girl child, saying a secured future for the gender is not negotiable.

Adebutu stressed that the move will make them stand on their feet, realizing they can achieve anything they want in life as long as they put their mind to it
