Co-owner Todd Boehly is keen to overhaul the club's boardroom and has already struck a deal to bring Christopher Vivell in as technical director following his recent departure from RB Leipzig.

The focus is now on finding a sporting director and Boehly is speaking with numerous candidates in search of the best fit for the new project. As such, sources have confirmed to 90min that talks have been held with Webber.

The 38-year-old, who has been with Norwich since April 2017, was recommended to Boehly by a number of different people within the game whom the American has grown to trust during his so far short time as Chelsea chairman and co-owner.

Because of those positive reviews, Boehly has spoken with Webber about the vacant sporting director role at Stamford Bridge, adding the Welshman to an ever-growing list of potential candidates.

Webber, who was Liverpool's head of scouting between 2009 and 2012, also spent time with QPR, Huddersfield and Wolves before moving to Carrow Road five and a half years ago.

The appointment of a sporting director is not expected to be imminent, with Chelsea keen to explore every available option to find the perfect fit for Boehly's vision.

90min understands that former Liverpool man Michael Edwards has long been Boehly's preference but, despite fresh contact in recent weeks, the 43-year-old has stressed his desire to take 12 months out of football.

Chelsea are open to the idea of waiting for Edwards, whose level of interest in moving to Stamford Bridge is unclear, but Boehly wants to prepare for all possible outcomes and is prepared to talk to as many people as necessary in order to find his new sporting director.
