Kenny Loggins is an American songwriter and singer with a four-decade career in music. He wrote and sang many hit Hollywood songs that captivated thousands of his fans and helped him become a celebrity.

Kenny Loggins: Biography & Early life

Kenny Loggins was born in Everett, Washington. His mother, Lina was a homemaker, and his father, Robert George Loggins, was a salesman. The family settled in Alhambra, California. Kenny Loggins attended San Gabriel Mission School where he graduated in 1966.

Kenny Loggins formed a band in 1968 called ‘Second helping’ that released three singles on Viva Records. He wrote all these songs.

Kenny Loggins came into contact with Jim Messina in 1970 when Messina was working as a record producer for Columbia records. Columbia records signed Kenny Loggins to a six-album contract. Messina was the prime coordinator bringing together instrumentalists and equipment for the Kenny Loggins band.

Their first album titled ‘Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina sittin’ in’ with ‘Vahevala’ songs found much success in the year 1972. Over the next four years, the duo produced five more albums. They sold 16 million records and became one of the seventies’ most successful duos. ‘Listen to a country song,’ and ‘Lovesong’ reached high on the charts.

In 1976 Kenny Loggins and Messina released ‘The Best of friends’ consisting of ten of their most loved songs like ‘ My music,’ ‘Angry eyes,’ ‘Danny’s song,’ and ‘Vahevala.’ In 1977 Kenny Loggins’s first solo album ‘Celebrate me home’ was released with songs ‘I believe in love.’ In 1978 his album ‘Night watch’ was released, followed by ‘keep the fire’ in 1979 and ‘High adventure’ in 1982.

Kenny Loggins collaborated with Michael McDonald on the song ‘What a fool believes’ which topped the Pop charts and earned Loggins and McDonald Grammy song of the year in 1980. In 1998 his song ‘One small voice’ was included in a track on the Grammy award-winning soundtrack album.

In 1978, Kenny Loggins was nominated for the Grammy Award-Best album of original score-‘A star is born’-shared by Alan Bergman, Barbara Streisand, and Marilyn Bergman.

In 1980 Kenny Loggins won Grammy song of the year for ‘What the fool believes.’

In 1981 he won Grammy Award for best pop vocal performance, Male for the song- ‘This is it,’ which was shared with Steve Perry.

In 1985 Kenny Loggins was nominated Oscar- best music original song- ‘Footloose,’ which was shared with Dean Pitchford. In the year 2000, Kenny Loggins won the Hollywood Discovery Award-Outstanding achievement in songwriting for ‘A star is born’ (1976).
