Callum Wilson agrees Newcastle contract extension

Newcastle United have agreed a two-year contract extension with Callum Wilson, 90min can confirm.

Newcastle have been holding talks with the England international since the summer as he triggered a clause in his original deal that was due to run until 2024.

Wilson has now put pen-to-paper on the fresh contact that will keep him at St James' Park until 2026.

Manager Eddie Howe will be delighted to have seen the 30-year-old sign a new deal, as he has always seen the striker as key to his plans with the club.

Wilson returned to action at the weekend, scoring in the 4-1 win over Fulham and Howe was quick to heap praise on him.

"He’s a hugely important part of our team, a focal point. We rely not just on his goals but his movement, his work rate. His appearance in the team gave us confidence," said Howe.

"He’s got an incredible attitude to the game, an incredible way of looking at life and football.

"He will see it as healthy competition. It will inspire him to perform better because he knows he’s got someone, plus Chris Wood, breathing down his neck and that’s very healthy for the team."
