What Does God Want From Us As Christians?

We read our Bible in the morning before going to work. We pray every night before going to bed, tithe once a week, and occasionally share our beliefs(preaching the gospel) with a stranger.

But, even when we do all these things, do we truly understand what God expects of us? Do we really understand what God wants from us as Christians?

Jesus was reportedly asked which of the Ten Commandments was the most important. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength," he replied. The second is, "Love your neighbour as you love yourself." There is no greater commandment than these. " (Mark 12:30–32; see also Matthew 22:37–39.)

God's desire is straightforward: He desires us. All of our service to God must stem from those two mandates to love; else, it is not true service; it is a fleshly effort. And, according to Romans 8:8, those who are "in the flesh cannot please God."

Knowing God’s desires

  1. Fellowship

To summarize the complex topic of God's desires as we understand them, one word comes to mind: relationship.

We strongly believe God’s desire for creating mankind was for fellowship and friendship. The Bible records that God created man a little lower than himself, even higher than angels. God’s love for mankind was so enormous that he flaunted it and never hid it. Even angels were jealous of such love, thus asking, “What is the man that you're so mindful of?"

In Genesis, the holy bible says God will come down in the cool of the evening to fellowship with the man (Adam) before he sinned and was cast out of the garden of Eden.

As a loving father, he always wants to be involved in the affairs of his children. He wants us to include him in everything we do and always put him first. He's a jealous God.

We are not trying to paint a picture of God being lonely and bored in heaven, then having to create man. God didn't even have to create humanity.

He wasn't alone before we arrived—he had company in the form of the Son, the Holy Spirit, and the angels. He had no desire for tributes, sacrifices, or even reverence. His life was great the way it was.

When it comes to you, God's desires are straightforward. He only wants you. He desires a loving relationship with His earthly offspring, and He desires that we extend that vertical love horizontally, following His lead and treating our fellow humans with love and respect.

  1. Conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus

God desires that we "be conformed to the image of His Son" (Romans 8:29). The Father desires that all of His children be like Jesus.

And also, by believing and accepting Jesus' death and resurrection, sinful individuals can be reconciled to God and therefore promised redemption and the promise of everlasting life.

He places experiences in our lives to purify us and chip away all those flaws that prevent us from becoming the people he created us to be (Hebrews 12:7; James 1:12).

Because Jesus was always obedient to the Father, every child of God should strive to be obedient to our Heavenly Father (John 8:29). First Peter 1:14-15 states, "As obedient children, do not conform to the bad impulses you had when you lived in ignorance." But be holy in all you do, just as he who called you is holy. "

God desires that we place our faith in His Son as our Savior and Lord (Philippians 2:9–11).

  1. Living a holy and acceptable life

"The Lord... is patient with you, not wishing anybody to perish but everyone to come to repentance," (Second Peter 3:9).

We get to know Jesus by confessing our sins and accepting him as our lord and personal saviour (Romans 10:9; John 1:12). When the disciples asked Jesus to show them the Father, he replied, "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father" (John 14:9). God want for us to know Him, and the only way we can do so is accepting Jesus.

10 Practical Things God Expects of Us

  1. Forgive everyone.

  2. Take care of widows and orphans.

  3. Keep ourselves pure and holy.

  4. Seek First His Kingdom

  5. Help Others

  6. Give

  7. Spread the word

  8. Take Care of the Environment

  9. Prayers

  10. Use His Word

Conclusion

God's desires aren't difficult when it comes to us. He simply wants us to love him and to love one another.

He wishes to start a family. Are you ready to allow yourself to be a part of him?
