The 18-year-old has established himself in the starting XI under manager Xavi and started alongside fellow youth prodigy Pedri in the 2-0 loss at Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

A statement from Barça reads: "FC Barcelona and the player Pablo Páez Gavira, ‘Gavi’, have reached an agreement to extend his contract to 30 June 2026. The buy out clause is set at €1bn."

Gavi will officially sign his new contract on Thursday in an open event at Camp Nou before he and president Joan Laporta speak to supporters.

Gavi made his Barça debut in 2021 and recently past 50 games in all competitions for the club. He made his international bow for Spain that same year and became the youngest player to ever score representing the senior side when he netted against the Czech Republic in June.

Barça now have the majority of their young talents on long-term deals, with Ansu Fati and Pedri penning fresh terms over the past year or so.

While Barça were defeated on Tuesday night, the Catalan side have won four of their opening five La Liga games. They sit two points behind current leaders and champions Real Madrid.
