Rangers vs Napoli game rescheduled due to death of Queen Elizabeth II

Rangers have confirmed that their UEFA Champions League group stage clash with SSC Napoli at Ibrox will be played on Wednesday 14th September.

The two sides were originally due to lock horns on Tuesday 13th September, but due to policing limitations stemming from the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the game has been rescheduled.

Queen Elizabeth II's passing has had a huge impact on the footballing world, with all games in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland being cancelled over the weekend as the United Kingdom entered a 10 day 'period of mourning'.

While games are expected to go ahead in midweek, Rangers' meeting with Napoli has been affected by the policing issues.

"Rangers can today confirm the upcoming UEFA Champions League match with SSC Napoli at Ibrox has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 14 September at 8pm," the Gers confirmed in a statement. "This is due to the severe limitations on policing resources and organisational challenges related to the ongoing events surrounding the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

The statement also revealed that Rangers fans will not be allowed to attend the return game in Naples due to the travel difficulties cause by the late rescheduling:

"Rangers, of course, recognise this switch in date will inconvenience a number of our loyal supporters, and refunds will be available to those unable to attend the match. Additionally, no away supporters will be present at the match, allowing the club to make additional tickets available to MyGers members as a priority.

"UEFA have also confirmed that as a matter of sporting integrity, no Rangers fans will be permitted to attend the return fixture in Naples."
