University of Maiduguri Cancels 2015 Post-UTME

Candidates who applied to the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) will not have to sit for the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be considered for admissions.
Speaking withDaily Trust, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, ProfessorIbrahim Njodi, said the selection process will be done without further tests.
“For this year’s admission, we are not conducting post UTME,” Njodi said.
“We will select students using the same criteria we used last year.”
The Vice Chancellor however hinted that UNIMAID took the decision for security reasons, not because it had discarded the Post-UTME system.
“It is not because we don’t believe in it but because we are still managing the insecurity situation.”
The cancellation of the post-UTME, which has been criticized as irrelevant by some education stakeholders, will most likely be welcomed by the applicants.
Besides, other institutions have cancelled theirs at their convenience.
In early September, theUniversity of Abuja(UNIABUJA) announced that it will offer admissions to 4,000 of the 6,000 candidates that applied to the institutionwithout conducting Post-UTME.
Njodi, who became the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAID in June 2014, was recently commended by education stakeholders in Borno state for unifying the university’s once-chaotic academic calendar.
