Jurgen Klopp compares his Liverpool start to Erik ten Hag at Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp believes he enjoyed an easier start to life at Liverpool than Erik ten Hag is currently experiencing at Manchester United.

The German takes his side to Old Trafford to face United on Monday evening, with Ten Hag having overseen consecutive defeats in his opening two league games as manager.

Klopp arrived at Liverpool in October 2015 and finished 8th in his first season. Since then, the Reds ended a 30-year wait for a Premier League title and lifted the Champions League in 2019.

And the Liverpool boss insists the challenge currently facing Ten Hag in Manchester is bigger than the situation he found himself in after succeeding Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.

"I think for me it was easier because I didn't come for the start of the season, we didn't have a transfer window," said Klopp.

"In England people tend to say then, 'Yeah, it's not his team.' I actually thought after one day it's my team, so I felt really responsible for all the performances from the first game. But it's easier.

"And now, I don't think you can really compare it, different times. My arrival is probably seven years ago - it's a long time in football, a lot of things changed since then.

"But it's not easy, definitely not, especially when you have to 'rebuild', or however they see it, but change a lot of things [in a] team. That's not easy."

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford having yet to taste victory in the Premier League this season, with successive draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace leaving the Reds languishing in the bottom half of the table.
