Box Office Results: Bullet Train Races to the Top

Bullet Train, perhaps the last big movie of the summer, came out on top of the domestic box office this weekend, earning $30.1 million, according to Deadline.

Worldwide the total was a good (not great) $62.5 million. Audiences awarded the pic with a B+ CinemaScore, whilst only 54% of critics offered positive reviews. In other words, a relatively surprising summer that saw blockbusters such as Top Gun: Maverick ended on something of a disappointing note.

With no big releases slated until at least mid-September (if you count Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio as a big release), it could be some time before we see any record-breaking box office numbers.

Elsewhere, DC League of Super-Pets dipped by 51% in its sophomore frame to bring in another $11.2 million. So far, the animated film’s running total is $45.1 million, which is not quite as great as Minions: Rise of Gru, which just surpassed $335 million domestically in its sixth week of release. Apples and oranges, to be sure, but considering the appeal of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart (to say nothing of appearances from Superman and Batman), one would expect Super-Pets to fly a little higher.

Meanwhile, Thor: Love and Thunder has amassed $316 million domestically, while Jordan Peele’s Nope is nearing the $100 million mark.
