Aisha Buhari Had No Problem In Jeddah – Presidency

The Presidency yesterday refuted a media report suggesting that wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari, was denied due and fair treatment, while observing her Umrah by the Nigerian mission in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the report, sources in the mission had claimed that Mrs Buhari was abandoned by the Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah, in alleged preference to the family of former vice president Namadi Sambo.

But senior special assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, noted in a statement yesterday that on the contrary,
Mrs Buhari had no difficulties or protocol challenges in the course of her visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“Instead, she only had words of commendation for Nigerian and Saudi officials who interacted with her in the course of her short visit,” he added.

Shehu dismissed the alleged mistreatment of the wife of the Nigerian leader “as sheer fiction”,
saying “we have confirmed that the Nigerian mission acted throughout in line with their duty and established protocol.

“They did so professionally and Mrs Buhari did not have any reasons to complain,” he added.

Shehu further explained that different sources indicated that former vice presidents Sambo and Atiku Abubakar and their families, “were received by Nigerian mission officials at the airport on arrival in line with protocol but each of the two leaders took responsibility for their accommodation.”
