Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has completed a season-long loan to Sevilla after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford amid competition from new signing Tyrell Malacia.
Telles has spent most of his two years at United since a 2020 transfer from Porto as a back-up and rotation option for Luke Shaw and has made 50 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The Brazilian developed a reputation as a goalscoring full-back at Porto, where he often took penalties, and netted 11 times during the 2019/20 season alone. But his only goal in United colours was an excellent volley from outside the penalty area against Villarreal in the Champions League.
Since moving to Europe from his native Brazil in 2013, Telles has played in Turkey, Italy, Portugal and England. Spain will be the sixth different country of his career.
The 29-year-old still has two more seasons on his United contract, with the option of a further 12 months until the summer of 2025.
A statement from United read: “A popular and professional member of the squad, Telles leaves United with everybody’s best wishes for the campaign to come and Reds supporters will be following Sevilla’s results from afar.”
Telles is Sevilla’s second signing of the summer, having also brought in Brazilian centre-back Marcao from Galatasaray. The club finished fourth in La Liga last season for the third year running to qualify for the Champions League again.
