Lite E-book Readers for Android, S60, and
E-book are books in electronic forms; they are
read on computers, PDAs, mobile phones and
other electronic devices. E-books vary in formats: from the older, widely
known Adobe's pdf to the newer IDPF's epub.
There are also other formats such
as .txt, .doc/.docx and .mobi. Depending on the
format, e-books might contain texts and images or
texts only. Since e-books are not bulky, they are more portable than paper backs. There are several applications for reading e-books
on android, S60 and S40 but in this post, I will
concentrate on very few (mostly the lite apps).
Bubue Reader is available for symbian and
android. On touch screens, you can swipe across
the screen to open or close a page just like the e-
book reader in iphone and ipad. However, this can
be done on non-touch screens by clicking either
the left or right navigation key. Bubue Reader displays a library of the selected e-
books on your device and a chapter list (with/
without chapter title) of the book. The app calls up
the last read page when you launch it and it's font
size can be customized.
Bubue reader supports .epub, .txt, and .umd e- book formats.

Bubue Book Reader (android)
Albite reader is a j2me app, and it'll work perfectly
on devices with these system features:
Profile: MIDP 2.0
Configuration: CLDC 1.1
There are two progress bars at the bottom—the
first is the chapter's while the second is the book's. It doesn't have a library like bubue reader but it shows the book's chapters; though without
chapter title. The font size as well as the
background color and font color can be
customized. The font style can be switched
between the app's and your devices'. It calls up the last read page and supports epub, text, and xhtml
This might sound as a surprise but on android and
symbian, x-plore can serve as an e-book reader as
it reads text and doc/docx files.
The android version is compatible on version 2.1
and above while the symbian version is compatible
on all versions of S60. Functionality is higher on android but they both offer basic customization
like text size.

This is another j2me e-book reader but with wider
format support. It supports pdf, doc/docx, and
The app reformats the books to fit your mobile
screen and it does not call up the last read page
and lacks any customization feature; therefore you can't increase the font size.
