Alexia Putellas suffers knee sprain days before Spain Euro 2022 opener
Alexia Putellas' Euro 2022 involvement is in doubt after she suffered a sprained knee just days before Spain's tournament opener.
The 2021 Ballon d'Or Feminin winner has been capped exactly 100 times by La Furia Roja and she was expected to play a key role in her country's chances this summer.
However, she could now miss the tournament after picking up an injury in training.
"Alexia Putellas suffered a sprain in her left knee during the session on Tuesday, July 5. Medical tests will determine the extent of the injury," an official statement read.
Spain's first Euro 2022 game is on Friday when they take on Finland at Stadium mk in Milton Keynes. Matches against Germany and Denmark follow with many calling Group B this tournament's 'Group of Death'.
Putellas came into the Euros in excellent form, registering 18 goals and 15 assists in just 26 league appearances.
She also helped Barcelona reach the Champions League final for the second successive year, where they were surprisingly beaten 3-1 by Lyon.
