OMG! Day Old Baby Found Dead In Ekiti Canal - See GRAPHIC PHOTOS!

A lifeless body of a day old baby was yesterday found inside a canal along Ijigbo/Atikankan/Ilawe road in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The discovery drew the anger of sympathetic residents and passers-by who rained curses on the person who perpetrated the heinous act.

It was gathered that the baby was dumped inside the huge canal at dawn and wasn't noticed by traders in the area until early yesterday morning.

A trader in the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said:
"The unfortunate baby must have been dropped inside the canal by its mother very early this morning because we didn't notice it yesterday night until we closed from shop."
It was widely believed that the sex workers, whose brothels are close to the area, might be responsible for the child's tragedy.

The area, where the incident occurred is notorious for diverse immoral activities such as prostitution, thuggery, drug peddling, and robbery among others.

When contacted, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident said that the baby's corpse has been deposited at the state mortuary and that investigation has commenced on the matter.

According to him:
"This morning reports came to us that a day old baby was dumped inside a canal in the area and we swiftly sent a rescue team to the spot. Our men found the baby dead inside the canal and they have evacuated its body and taken it to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital's mortuary. We have also begun investigation into the development."

A commercial motorcyclist, Mr Mufu Ayeni, told Sunday Leadership that:
"The baby was very unlucky. It had died before the police came to the spot. All these sex workers are responsible for committing this kind of atrocity. If you examine the baby very well, it was still smeared with blood which showed that it was dumped inside the canal immediately after it was delivered.
