According to a report by The Nation, the operatives of the Lagos Police Command yesterday prevented an eruption of violence after a truck crushed a masquerader to death in Mushin.
The incident occurred along Isolo Road, around 2:30pm.
It was learnt that the truck laden with plywood crushed the masquerader around the market axis.
The masquerader was said to have died on the spot while two others reportedly passed out.
In no time, angry traditionalists gathered and attempted to lynch the driver.
They set the truck ablaze.
It was gathered that the driver allegedly fled to the nearby Area D Command and the mob stormed the police station to demand that he be handed over to them.
Our correspondent, who was around the scene, observed that vehicles were making detours as the traditionalists blocked the expressway.
As the crowd became riotous, the police released teargas to disperse them which caused the protesters and other road users to scamper for safety.
People were seen running with their hands covering their nostrils and mouths.
Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident but added that it had been brought under control.
