N2.5bn Fraud: Babachir Lawal Should Be In Jail
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal is the new tool in the hand of those scared of the massive acceptance and support that follows the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s declaration to run for President in 2023.
Babachir Lawal was removed from office as SGF after allegations that humanitarian aid was illegally diverted to companies he set up.
Lawal is mean and he will only associate himself with persons who are corrupt and fraudulent. You will recall that he was initially suspended amid allegations that contracts to administer projects in refugee camps and areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency had been awarded to companies that he set up.
Lawal’s heinous actions in the Presidency was the height of corruption. He exacerbated concern in Nigeria, where a UN appeal for $1.05bn (£794m) to provide humanitarian aid to more than 6.9 million people had only been 64% fulfilled.
Bank and CAC evidences revealed that Babachir Lawal illegally awarding contracts worth millions of naira to his own companies, PINE. He also could not account for N2.5bn allocated for IDPs in the Northeast.
Also, Josmon technologies Ltd got the contract from Lawal-led Presidential Initiative on Northeast (PINE) to clear grass for N248, 939, 231 and Rholavision got N200m kickback from a contract the SGF awarded for the clearing of “invasive plant species” (grass) in Yobe State. Josmon Technologies Ltd made cash deposits of N10 million into Lawal’s company’s (Rholavision Engineering Ltd) account 20 times from March 29, making N200m.
Documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) showed that Babachir Lawal is a Director of Rholavision Engineering until September 16, 2016, while Lawal awarded the contract to Josmon Technologies Ltd on March 8, while the company made cash deposits until September when he resigned from Rholavision Engineering.
Lawal is filthy and in a society where the judiciary is held to high esteem should be behind bars for the criminal acts he perpetuated.
