Man jailed 6 months for stealing car battery

An Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, during the weekend, sentenced a 33-year-old man, Kehinde Akinpade, to three months’ imprisonment for stealing two batteries from a vehicle parked on the street he resided.

While ruling on the matter, the Senior Magistrate, Patricia Adetuyibi, said, “Having found the convict guilty of the offence and seeing that he was not in a good frame of mind, the court sees that he needs rehabilitation.

“Therefore, the convict is sentenced to three months’ community service within the four walls of the Agodi Prison starting from November 25, that he was arraigned before the court.”

Akinpade, who is also a drug addict, resides in the Akinpade area of Akobo, Ibadan.

He was arraigned on one count of theft by the prosecutor, Philip Amusan, who told the court that Akinpade stole the two batteries from a vehicle marked, FKJ 94 FJ, valued at N70,000.

He further explained that the convict committed the offence on November 23, at about 10am in the Akinpade area.

Akinpade was also sentenced to another three months’ imprisonment by the same magistrate for assault.

The prosecutor said the defendant on November 10 assaulted one Folorunso Adewuyi by attacking him with a cutlass.

The convict also pleaded guilty to the crime.
