Trailer fire along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway burns vehicles, leaves commuters stranded

Barely two days after the driver of an articulated vehicle lost control at the New Garage area of Ibadan, Oyo State, crushing no fewer than seven persons to death, a multiple accident involving about five vehicles on Wednesday occurred on the Kara Bridge on the Berger end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A speeding trailer loaded with petrol rammed into three trucks and a Toyota saloon, exploded and caught fire which extended to the others.

This caused a major gridlock on the expressway, leaving scores of stranded commuters to start trekking.


Officials of the Federal Fire Service were making frantic efforts to put out the fire, as at press time.

The number of casualties is however yet to be officially ascertained.
