Man bags 18 months jail term for stealing copper wire

A 33-year-old man, Ibrahim Samuel, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by an Evbouriaria Magistrates’ Court in Benin for allegedly stealing six electrical fuses and five lengths of Copper wires .

The accused was tried by Magistrate, Mrs C.E Oghuma on a one-count charge of stealing.

He pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him.


Oghuma granted the accused an option to pay the sum of N30,000 as fine in lieu of the term in prison.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Olatoye Oluwaseun, Samuel committed the offence on October 23, at Isiuwa Street, off Upper Sakponba, Benin.

The offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Edo State.

“The property belonged to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC),” he added.
