A young businesswoman is fighting for her life after being stabbed in the neck while having a bath after she argued with her boyfriend. Macarena Ardit, 23, was allegedly stabbed in the bath by her boyfriend, Mauricio Suligoy, 27, who has now been arrested by police on domestic violence charges.

Prosecutor Ruben Martinez said that the incident happened around 11pm in Sante Fe, New Mexico, when the couple had an argument on the phone and the man decided to go to her house to talk to her.

A friend of the woman had opened the door to allow him in and the prosecutor said he then left the house a short while later. When the friend went upstairs, she discovered Macarena lying in a pool of blood.

Prosecutor Martinez said: "From the beginning we knew who the attacker was."

The police started a search operation to find and arrest Suligoy. The young woman had only recently taken part as a contestant in the Queen of Surubi beauty contest in the city of Reconquista, in the north-east Argentine province of Santa Fe.

After she was stabbed at her home, she was rushed to hospital where medics managed to save her life after emergency surgery lasted several hours.

She is now still in intensive care at the Reconquista hospital. The woman is the daughter of businessman Jose Ardit and lawyer Griselda Delbon.

Alleged attacker Mauricio’s father, Gustavo Suligoy, convinced him to deliver himself to the police. He had been hidden in a rural area in the Vera department and two days after the attack he gave himself up.
