ASUU Strike: UNIJOS Orders Students To Vacate Campus

According to The PUNCH, following the nationwide warning strike embarked by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Management of the University of Jos has ordered students of the institution to vacate the campus till further notice.

The University gave the order on Thursday in a statement signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, Abdullahi Abdullahi.

According to him, the University took the decision after the Senate approved the suspension of academic activities as a result of the strike.

The statement read, “Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, has, on behalf of Senate of the University, approved the suspension of Academic activities in the institution for the 2020/2021 Academic Session until further notice.

“This follows an emergency meeting of the University Management where the issue of the one month warning strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities was considered as it affects academic activities in the institution.

“In light of the fact that there would be no lectures or similar activities taking place during the period of the warning strike, Management agreed that it would be in the best interest of the students to allow them to return home until academic activities can resume after the industrial action.”

The statement advised the students of the university to take note and strictly act on the order to return home accordingly .

The PUNCH reported that ASUU had on Monday declared a nationwide strike to press home its demands for the federal government to address the problem in the education sector .

The warning strike would last for four weeks.
