Kogi Inconclusive Poll: We’ll BeGuided By The Law – APC

The All Progressives Congress(APC) yesterday mourned the death of its governorship candidatein Saturday’s inconclusive polls in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, saying his demise had created a big vacuum in the politics of the confluence state.

The APC also reacted to the outcome of the governorship election, saying its observations and final decision would be within the ambit of the law.
The APC National Secretary, Malam Mai Mala Buni, said this yesterday in a press statement issued in Abuja.

According to the APC scribe, the development in Kogi State was a test case for the rule of law, however, the governing party is committed to ensuring a sustainable democracy in the country.

On INEC’s position that the November 21 governorship poll was inconclusive, APC is studying the declaration of the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, based on Section M, Paragraph 4 (Page 22) of INEC Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the Conduct of the 2015 General Elections.

APC believes in the rule of law, strict adherence to 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act 2010(as Amended).

Our government was a product of the rule of law, we have absolute faith in the nation’s law and we will not in any manner undermine the law. Our observations and position will be within the laws of the land”, he said.

While expressing condolences over the death of Prince Audu, Malam Buni, who described the ex-governor as a prince of hope and a symbol of peace and reintegration in Kogi State, said the honour the people of his state could do him was to remain peaceful and preserve the ideals he stood for while he was alive.

The party also appealed to the people of the state to see Audu’s death as an act of God, stressing that “there should be no recourse to lawlessness or vindictiveness in whatever form”.

Mr. Buni called on all APC members and supporters in the state and nationwide not to allow their spirit to be dampened by the passage of Prince Audu, saying they should rather be united in mourning and be encouraged to effect the desired change in Kogi State through the ballot.

The APC also commiserated with the deceased’s family and the people of Kogi State for having a strong belief in Abubakar Audu’s capacity to redeem the state.
