The limited series will continue to follow Scott Calvin as he tries to find the right person to take on the mantle of Santa Clause. Fans last saw Allen’s Scott in the 2006 film titled The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, where Martin Short’s Jack Frost tricks him into renouncing his position as Santa Clause.

“In the Disney+ series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever,” reads the synopsis. “He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”

It hails from executive producer and showrunner Jack Burditt, who is known for his work on hit shows such as 30 Rock, Modern Family, and Frasier. In addition to starring, the Toy Story vet will also be executive producing.

The Santa Claus series is a production by 20th Television. Executive producers are Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina.

The Christmas trilogy began with the 1994 film which featured Scott Calvin as Santa Claus’s proxy, complete with expanding waistline, rosy cheeks, and snow-white whiskers. He went on to reprise the role in two sequels, 2002’s The Santa Clause 2 and 2006’s The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. The franchise was a box office success with a combined worldwide gross of over $470 million.
