Suspects Linked With Justice Odili’s Home Invasion Granted Bail

Twelve out of the fifteen suspects linked with the invasion of the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili have been granted bail.

Naija News reports that the suspects who were earlier arraigned on an 18-count amended charge were granted bail in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties in like sum.

Earlier, all the suspects pleaded not guilty to the 18 charges of felony, forgery, impersonation, attempted murder of the Supreme Court judge and members of her household.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court in Abuja said the sureties must reside in Abuja and must be responsible citizens.

The presiding judge also ruled that the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means and one of the sureties must own landed property, with original copies of the property deposited with the registrar of the court.

According to the judge, the second surety must be gainfully employed in Abuja, with proof of three years recent tax payment and the court registrar must verify the properties alongside their addresses.

The court ruled that the applicants and sureties are also to submit recent passport photographs to the court, as well as their international passports.

While the court declined to grant an oral application for the 11th and 15th defendants, it held that there was no bail application in respect of the 14th defendant.

Consequently, the judge ordered their remand at the Kuje correctional centre pending the next adjourned date of January 17 and 18, 2022.

The judge ruled that all the defendants are to remain in Kuje and Suleja correctional centres pending when they perfect their bail conditions.

Those arraigned are Adjodo F. Lawrence, Michael Diete-Spiff, Alex Onyekuru, Bayero Lawal, Igwe Ernest, Aliyu Umar Ibrahim, Maimuna Maishanu,

Other suspects are Ayodele Akindipe, Yusuf Adaiu, Bashir Musa, Stanley Nkwazema, Shehu Jibo, Abdulahi Adamu, Mohammed Yahaya, and Abdulahi Usman.
