Oluwashina Akanbi Peters (born May 30, 1958) popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, is a Nigerian singer known for his Juju genre of music. He came to prominence with the song “Ijo Shina” off his debut album “Ace (Afro
-juju series 1)”. He already boast of more than 15 albums to his credit.
Sir Shina Peters was born on May 30, 1958 in Ogun State part of Nigeria.
Shina Peters who started doing music at a very tender age, had learned how to play different musical instruments such as Guitar and Piano.
He joined Ebenezer Obey’s band and later left to be a guitar player for General Prince Adekunle’s band after which he also left to form a band known as “Shina Adewale” alongside Segun Adewale. The duo released numerous albums together in the 1980s.
He finally came through with his own band called “Sir Shina Peters & His International Stars”.
He released his first album “Ace (Afro-juju series 1)” in 1989. The album which was produced by Laolu Akins and released under CBS records of Nigeria, is a fusion of afrobeat and juju which blends so well with fast percussive beat and different musical instruments like guitar and electronic keyboards. He followed up with the release of another album titled “Shinamania” and of course it produced hit singles like; “Omo Bo”, “Oluwa Yo Pese” and “Give Our Women Chance”.
