This free-to-play title is releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime in 2022. However, the game is holding a playtest in the near future.

MultiVersus is a two-on-two fighter that is trying to put the player’s experience first, an aspect hinted at in the brand-new developer’s name: Player First Games. The title have full crossplay and cross-progression, which will let players jump around to the platform of their choosing and engage with the many social features (like guilds) that Player First is promising. Dedicated servers and rollback netcode — a stated priority for the team — are also going to be in the game on day one, both of which will help alleviate lag. MultiVersus‘ “content-rich seasons” will also keep the game going after launch and will bring features like new modes, skins, events, characters, and updates.

Hyunh did unveil many different fighters, who will all have a range of customization options. The current MultiVersus roster is:

  • Shaggy from Scooby-Doo

  • Batman

  • Superman

  • Wonder Woman

  • Harley Quinn

  • Arya Stark from Game of Thrones

  • Steven Universe

  • Garnet from Steven Universe

  • Tom & Jerry

  • Finn from Adventure Time

  • Jake from Adventure Time

  • Bugs Bunny

  • A new creature named Reindog

The trailer didn’t have some characters from prior leaks like Lord of the Rings‘ Gandalf and Rick from Rick & Morty, but it’s likely just a matter of time. MultiVersus boasts an impressive voice cast for its roster. Maisie Williams is voicing Arya. Kevin Conroy us reprising his role as Batman. Matthew Lillard will once again be Shaggy. Tara Strong is Harley Quinn. George Newbern is Superman. And while not directly confirmed yet, it was implied that John DiMaggio will be coming back to voice Jake and Jeremy Shada will be Finn. While impressive in its own right, WB likely made a big deal out of this because Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl featured no voice acting whatsoever, a common criticism that many said made the game feel cheap. The stages will pull from these worlds, too, as shown by the Batcave and Finn’s Tree Fort.

The game is focused on co-op as every character will have a team-focused move. For example, Batman can throw a smoke grenade to hide his ally’s movements. But there will also be a one-on-one mode as well as four-player free-for-all.
