Cholera Outbreak: 20 People Report Hospitalised In Jos
No fewer than 20 people were yesterday hospitalised in a clinic in Jos, the Plateau State capital, following an outbreak of cholera in the state.
A medical doctor, Yakubu Izang, said he diagnosed about 10 people who tested positive to cholera disease.
Mr Izang, a medical officer at the Kauna Clinic in Tudunwa area in Jos north local government area of Plateau State made the disclosure when some persons including children were taken to the clinic for vomiting and stooling and other health challenges.
Moses Gbande, a guardian of one of the victims, told our correspondent on phone that the victim had constant vomiting and stooling three days ago, and that the situation deteriorated on Sunday night.
It was gathered that other victims of the disease were hospitalised at the Kauna clinic while many others were referred to other clinics because the facilities at the Kauna clinic were over-stretched with victims of the disease.
Another hospital source said over 20 persons were hospitalised.
LEADERSHIP recalls that since after workers in the Plateau State embarked on strike over the non payment of salaries by the outgoing government of Jonah Jang, the streets of Jos have been overrun with filth as sanitation workers have not shown up at work.
Efforts to reach the Plateau State chief epidermologist, Dr Raymond Jurit, to get more details of the outbreak were abortive as his phone was switched off.
