Egypt Tasks Buhari On Inaugural Speech - Read What They Say

The Egyptian government has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that all issues raised in his inaugural speech are successfully implemented.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sameh Shoukry, who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja at the weekend, said both countries must improve on their economic relations.

Shoukry, who was in the country to represent the Egyptian president during Buhari’s inaugurationon Friday, said, “We look forward to the newly elected government successfully implementing all the issues the President raised in his inaugural address. I am sure the evaluation will always be that of the Nigerian people.”

He described the inauguration ceremony as historic, stating that the Egyptian government looks forward to increasing ties with Nigeria.

Shoukry, who congratulated President Buhari on behalf of the Egyptian president, reiterated his government’s invitation extended to the President to visit Cairo as soon as possible to deepen ties.

“We are looking forward to the visit. Therefore, we look forward to working closely with Nigeria and new Nigerian government,” he said.

The Egyptian minister, however, expressed worry over the current trade volume between Nigeria and his country, which he said, was very low compared to the size of the market of the two countries.

“We are not satisfied with the current level of
economic relations between Nigeria and Egypt.
The volume of trade between the two countries is very limited for a country of the size of Nigeria and a country of the size of Egypt.

“We represent almost 300 million individuals and this has to be taken advantage of by both sides, looking at areas of economy that we can support each other. This is the first matter that will be discussed fully when we hold the forthcoming session of the joint committee between the two countries which will be convened before the end of this year,” he added.

He also expressed his country’s willingness to support Nigeria in the fight against terror.
