Nyako Returns, Meets Kwankwaso, Al-Makura

Former Governor of Adamawa State Murtala Nyako last night returned from his self-exile in Europe.

Sources close to the retired Naval Admiral, confirmed that he returned to the country aboard a Lufthansa Airline and landed in Abuja, in the evening.

He was reportedly sighted in the company of the immediate past governor of Kano State and senator-elect for Kano Central Musa Kwankwaso and the governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Tanko Al Makura on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

Nyako’s political aide, Uba Danarewa, confirmed to LEADERSHIP Sunday that the former governor “is back in Nigeria.”

“He is in Abuja as I speak,” he told our correspondent, who sought to know if Nyako would return to the country this weekend as was widely speculated.

The former governor’s spokesperson, Ahmad Sajo, however, did not answer calls to his mobile telephone number when LEADERSHIP Sunday made efforts to confirm his boss’ return to the country.

The former governor was declared wanted by the EFCC over allegations of financial crimes.

Another of his lieutenants, said Nyako decided to return following the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari as the president and emergence of his associate, Jibrilla Bindow as governor of Adamawa state.

Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 362,329 votes to defeat the Social Democratic Party’s Markus Gundiri, who polled 181,806 votes, leaving former chairman of the EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu at a distance third position in the April 11 gubernatorial poll.

Nyako left the country hurriedly following his impeachment from office by the state lawmakers.
His impeachment, which he is still contesting in court, came as a result of the disagreement he had with former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former naval officer had accused the then president of having a hand in the Boko Haram insurgency, which has ravaged parts of the North East, especially Borno State.

He also wrote a lengthy letter to the former President, accusing him of being anti-people.
Nyako was among the five governors that defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, after the walkout at the 2013 convention of the party.
