Barcelona hero, Hristo Stoichkov has overlooked Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi and named Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski as the player that deserves to win the Ballon d’ Or this year.

Stoichkov also said that Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho, has a chance to win the Ballon d’ Or this year because of what he did with Thomas Tuchel’s side and the Italy national team.

Both Lewandowski and Jorginho are expected to rival Messi for the Ballon d’ Or this year.

“Jorginho? He has a chance to win [the Ballon d’ Or] this year for what he did with Chelsea and the national team. But it doesn’t depend on me, but on the journalists.

“I would vote for a player who has not done just one year, but 4-5 years at a high level. If he also won the Nations League and the World Cup I would give it to him.

“For me, however, [Robert] Lewandowski would deserve it,” Stoichkov told TMW.

Meanwhile, Lewandowski won FIFA’s The Best award last year, but was denied the Ballon d’Or after the event was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Jorginho won the Champions League with Chelsea and he was a key player in Italy’s successful Euros title triumph in the summer.
