Lawmakers Commend Buhari For Relocating Military Centre To Maiduguri

Two members of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) on Friday commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for laying more emphasis on security challenges facing the country in his inauguration speech.

Mr Bisi Yusuf, Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Industry, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the decision to relocate the military centre to Maiduguri showed the seriousness of the President in tackling Boko Haram insurgency.

“I commend President Muhammadu Buhari for laying more emphasis on security challenges and Boko Haram insurgency.

“The President also said that he would move the military base to Maiduguri in order to combat the menace of Boko Haram, I think that shows seriousness and determination to tackle the insurgency,” he said.

Yusuf (APC-Alimosho I) also appreciated the president for recognising and embracing everybody in his administration, saying that he was giving an inspiration which everybody should follow in order to foster development in the country.

The lawmaker also appreciated the Nigerians for their support and urged them to follow in the direction of change as the administration commenced.

Mr Rotimi Olowo, Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructures, appealed to the people to be patient with the new government as it confronts the challenges facing the country in all sectors.

“I am sure that Buhari will be able to nip in the bud the challenges facing the country presently like insurgency in the North, being an ex-military man,” Olowo said.

He also advised the new president to put an end to fuel scarcity by removing subsidy from the system.

The lawmaker appealed to Buhari to focus on youth empowerment, job creation, education and power as stated in his inauguration speech.

He also appealed to the citizens to pray for him to be successful in his tenure as the president of the country.

Similarly, Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya, the Presidential Candidate of KOWA Party in the March 28, Presidential Election, said Buhari’s speech“ touched on the vital aspects of our realities”.

“It was a great speech, touching upon the vital aspects of our realities and the challenges ahead of us.

“It is good to hear him say “I belong to everybody’’ and I think we are in for a new kind of public conduct by our leaders,” Sonaiya said.

In the same vein, the National Chairman of Progressives Action Council, Chief Charles Nwodo, said Buhari touched on the ‘’spinal cord of our challenges”.

“His speech was motivational and revolutionary in character; he touched on the spinal cord of our challenges.

“We urge all Nigerians to key into the new era of value system to uplift our nation,” Nwodo said.

A politician and Director, Change Programme and Global Transformation, Mr Denis Aghanya, said that Buhari would keep to his promises.

“Buhari does not say what he will not do; moreover, he is aware that the expectation is very high so he will do everything possible not to disappoint Nigerians.
