The series is led by Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo, who is currently enjoying a steady rise in her music career as she recently dominated this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with three major wins including Song of the Year for the song “Drivers License,” from her hit debut album Sour.

“We are overjoyed to be heading to the great outdoors for season three, and grateful to our partners and friends at Disney+ for their continued support of our next-generation Wildcats,” Federle said in a statement.

Season 3 will continue to follow the Wildcats as they leave the hallways of East High for the ultimate summer at sleepaway camp, complete with campfires, summer romances, and curfew-less nights. Production is expected to begin later this year in Los Angeles.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a mockumentary musical teen drama that follows a group of students at East High who stage a performance of High School Musical for their winter theater production, only to realize that as much drama is also happening offstage. Season 2 featured the cast staging a Beauty and the Beast musical where they’ve covered songs from the acclaimed play while also performing original songs for the series and songs from High School Musical 2.

The series stars Olivia Rodrigo as Nini, Joshua Bassett as Ricky, Matt Cornett as E.J., Sofia Wylie as Gina, Larry Saperstein as Big Red, Julia Lester as Ashlyn, Dara Renee as Kourtney, Frankie Rodriguez as Carlos, and Joe Serafini as Seb.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is executive produced by Tim Federle (Ferdinand) and Oliver Goldstick (Pretty Little Liars) along with the original film’s EPs Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.

The first High School Musical film aired in 2006 on the Disney channel which launched the careers of Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman), Vanessa Hudgens (Dog Days), and Ashley Tisdale (Charming) giving them worldwide recognition.
