Romelu Lukaku gets new jersey number at Chelsea

Newly signed Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku will now wear the jersey number 9 following Tammy Abraham’s departure from Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian was officially listed as Chelsea’s No. 18 on the Premier League website but the Blues have released a plethora of images featuring Lukaku with no number on the back.

According to talkSPORT, this was because the number the Belgian striker probably wanted was worn by Abraham.

Abraham, who was the club’s No. 9, has completed a move to AS Roma in a £34million deal, freeing up Lukaku’s preferred number throughout his career.

Out of respect, the Blues did not give away the England international’s number while he was still technically at the club.
