Edo Council Chairman Dies After Youths Stage Protest For His Removal
Less than 24 hours after a protest by suspected hired youths, who called for the removal of the chairman of Etsako West local government, Hassa Kadiri due to his ill-health, the ailing chairman died.
The youths were said to have stormed the council secretariat with placards and disrupted activities, alleging that the ill health of the late council boss was slowing down development of the area.
Some of the protesters who were alleged to be students of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, were arrested by the police while others escaped.
The presence of the school’s Students Union Government (SUG) official vehicle has led to the querying of the president, Sani Abdulqadiri as the public relation officer of the institution, Oshiobugie Mustapha, said the school was on holiday and that any student caught protesting should be prosecuted.
According to him, “The school is on holidays. We are resuming on the 24th of May. The vehicle belonging to SUG was found at the scene of the protest. He should explain how the vehicle got there.”
The late Kadiri was aged 54 and died of undisclosed ailment.
