HBO Max’s Pretty Little Liars Reboot Finds Its First Two Leads

After nine months since HBO Max has granted a straight-to-series order to Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, it looks like series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has finally found their first leads for the upcoming reboot of the popular teen mystery drama. HBO Max has announced that Chandler Kinney (Zombies 2) and Maia Reficco (Kally’s Mashup) have been tapped for the leading roles of Tabby and Noa. In addition, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina director Lisa Soper is reuniting with Aguirre-Sacasa to helm the first two episodes of the new Pretty Little Liars reboot.

Kinney’s Tabby is being described as an aspiring director and horror movie buff. Like the other Little Liars, Tabby’s hiding a secret. Meanwhile, Reficco’s Noa is a striving, sardonic track star who’s working hard to get her life back to normal after a summer spent in juvenile detention.

Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago…as well as their own. In the dark, coming-of-RAGE, horror-tinged drama Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe — in a brand new town, with a new generation of Little Liars.

Based upon the bestselling series of books by Sara Shepard, the Pretty Little Liars reboot is executive produced and written by Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring. Executive producers are Michael Grassi, Caroline Baron, and Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.

The series is a production by Warner Bros. Television, Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions, and Alloy Entertainment, the studio behind shows like Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and You.

A pop culture phenomenon, the first Pretty Little Liars series was created by I. Marlene King. It ran on-air for seven seasons from 2010 to 2017, where it starred Troian Bellisario, Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Sasha Pieterse, and Janel Parrish. During its seven-year run, Pretty Little Liars ranked as the #1 scripted series on all of cable television in the teen girl demographic, and it ranks as the #1 series ever to air on Freeform/ABC Family.
