Tariq Lumaan Trotter (born 3rd October, 1971) known professionally as Black Thought, is an American rapper and actor. He is the co-founder of the Philadelphia based hip hop group, The Roots alongside Questlove.
Black Though was born on October 3, 1971 in Philadelphia, U.S.
His father died when he was barely a year old while his mother passed away when he was in high school.
He went to Philadelphia High School for creative and performing arts and studied Journalism at Millersville University.
Black Thought started his career in 1987 when he met with drummer Ahmir Thompson well known as Questlove. Both had performed in live shows alongside Malik B under the name Square Roots.
The music group renamed themselves from “The Square Roots” to ” The Roots” and came through with their debut album “The Organix” in 1993. They got signed to DGC and followed it up with other projects. Some of their albums include; Phrenology (2002), The Tipping Point (2004), Game Theory, Rising Down and so on.
As an actor, Black Thought had starred in films such as; On the Inside, Perfume, Bamboozled, Love Rom3, Brooklyn Babylon and many others.
Black Thought got married to Michelle Trotter in 2010 and they have 5 children, four sons and a daughter.
