Siyabonga Nene (born April 7, 1986) known professionally as Big Zulu, is a South African actor, rapper and songwriter. He came to prominence in 2016 for his hit single “Donsa Nkabi”. He is also known for his roles in numerous television shows which include the likes of Uzalo, One Mic, Isibaya and so on.

Early Life & Career

Big Zulu was born on April 7, 1986 in Bergville, KwaZulu Natal where he was also raised.

Prior to fame, Zulu was a taxi driver before he left in 2008 to focus on music and in 2009 he began to perform as influenced musically by listening to Maskandi and Isichatamiya music.

He came through professionally as an independent artist before he got signed by Universal music records in 2015. He became known for his hit single “Donsa Nkaba” in 2016.

He released his debut album “Ushun Wenkabi” in 2018. He followed up with a second studio album “Ungqongqoshe” in 2019 which earned him a nomination at South African music awards as Best Hiphop album.

He later established his own record label “Nkabi records” and released countless of top charting singles.
