Why Wizkid Made In Lagos Album Is Still Topping Charts - Editorial
Barely six months after Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayo "Wizkid" Balogun unlocked his fourth studio album "Made In Lagos", we are still talking about it. The beautiful album released on the 29th of October 2020 has been too stubborn to leave the charts.
According to Kworbs, the album is still trending on the Apple Music album charts of over forty (40) countries including, the British Virgin Islands, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, United Arab Emirates, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, Mozambique, Barbados, and Bermuda. Other countries include The Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, Portugal, Netherlands, Laos, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guinea-Bissau, United States, Cape Verde, Estonia, Canada, Fiji, Dominica, Cayman Islands, Niger, Panama, Belgium, France, New Zealand, Switzerland, Denmark, Turkey, Australia, Sweden, and Finland.
The 14-tracks body of work features Ella Mai, H.E.R, Terri, Tems, Damian Marley, Skepta, Burna Boy, Projexx, and Tay Iwar. It's one of Wizkid's projects with soul-soothing sounds to calm nerves and ignite emotions. The African pop star linked up with a host of Nigerian producers like P2J, London, Blaq Jerzee and others to give his fans his most anticipated body of work.
Wizkid four years to release 'Made in Lagos' after mentioning the album in 2017. The singer took to him to create this project like we are meant to believe but the time he spent in creating this beautiful project created a vacuum. His fans were always talking about the album and couldn't wait to have the project. It's a simple law of microeconomics. Once there is a high demand for a product, sales are inevitable once there is a limited supply.
2. Fan base
This is not debatable, Wizkid has the biggest fanbase in Nigeria if not Africa. In fact, it is believed that Wizkid fans are the largest fans in the Nigerian social media space. This alone is an advantage.
3. Excellent Material
I need not tell you that the 'Made in Lagos' album is doing awesome on streaming platforms across the world. The album has gone 19 weeks on the Billboard World Digital Album chart with its peak position at No. 2. This shows how much this album has had on people since its release. To me, Wizkid chose the best team for the Made in Lagos album. Indeed, the album shows how much good can come out of Nigeria's commercial city, Lagos. The collaborations with the producers and artists like Damian Marley, Tems, H.E.R, Tay Iwar, etc all meet the Grammy standard.
