Tom Hanks Movie Finch To Release On Apple TV+

Tom Hanks' next film Finch, formerly titled Bios, will release on Apple TV+. https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/6dfb26cd4e53ec8af810ab5fb2fbf443.jpgThis will be the second film starring Hanks to release on Apple TV after last summer's World War II thriller Greyhound, which was a surprise hit for the streamer. Set during the Battle of the Atlantic, Greyhound follows Hanks' Navy Commander Krause who must lead an Allied convoy while being hunted by a German submarine wolf pack.

Though Hanks was not entirely pleased Apple sent Greyhound straight to streaming, it resulted in the streamer's biggest opening weekend ever as their most-watched film at the time with viewership equivalent to a summer theatrical blockbuster. Hanks eventually walked back his comments, clarifying that he was glad Apple made Greyhound available for everyone to view during the pandemic.

Now, Apple looks to build upon the success of Greyhound with Finch. The streamer won the rights after a competitive auction, per Deadline. Though a release date has not been confirmed, Finch is expected to stream on Apple TV+ later this year during awards season with a qualifying release in theaters. Finch is helmed by Miguel Sapochnik, a two-time Emmy winner best known for directing some of the most well-regarded Game of Thrones, including "Battle of the Bastards" and "The Long Night."

With a screenplay from rookie writers Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, Finch follows Hanks' titular character, a robotics engineer who is one of few survivors left on post-apocalyptic Earth. Worried that no one will look after his beloved canine companion Goodyear once he is gone, Finch builds a robot played by Get Out‘s Caleb Landry Jones. The trio must then embark on a treacherous quest across a desolate American landscape as Finch teaches his creation about life, love, friendship, and what it means to be human.

The two-time Oscar-winning actor seems to be developing a good rapport with Apple TV+, as this will actually be their third collaboration together counting the World War II miniseries Masters of the Air which was produced by Hanks. While, in many consumer's eyes, Apple TV+ still plays second fiddle to streaming services like Netflix, the fledgling streamer is quietly building momentum by acquiring the Sundance Film Festival winner CODA, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and most recently the life-affirming sci-fi drama Finch.
