Vivo Movie Trailer: Lin-Manuel Miranda Is A Singing Kinkajou In Netflix’s Musical

The first trailer for Sony and Netflix's animated musical Vivo has arrived, revealing Lin-Manuel Miranda's one-of-a-kind kinkajou. https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/6287a96a8c050b761554fe7156709f46.jpgMiranda rose to fame through his award-winning Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton, for both of which he wrote the music and lyrics. With Hamilton, Miranda helped usher in a global phenomenon as he told the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton with hip hop music. While Hamilton scored its own filmed production on Disney+ last year, In the Heights will get a traditional movie adaptation over at Warner Bros. in June.

When it comes to Miranda's latest original efforts, fans have to look no further than Vivo. The Sony Pictures Animation film recently made the jump to Netflix, where it will debut later this year. Starring Miranda as the voice of the titular Vivo, the movie centers on the musically talented kinkajou, who spends his days entertaining the people of Havana alongside his owner Andrés (Juan de Marcos González). When tragedy strikes, Vivo must set out alongside energetic tween Gabi (Ynairaly Simo) to deliver a message to Andrés' love Marta Sandoval (Gloria Estefan).

On Tuesday, the first teaser for Vivo debuted alongside a flurry of major Netflix news. The clip, which clocks in at less than a minute, showcases the partnership between Vivo and Andrés, while also offering a quick tease for some of the music featured in the movie. Check it out down below.

Vivo is directed by Kirk DeMicco. Multiple past Miranda collaborators have a hand in the project, from In the Heights scribe Quiara Alegría Hudes (who wrote the script alongside DeMicco) and composer Alex Lacamoire. It also features the vocal talents of Zoe Saldana, Brian Tyree Henry, and Nicole Byer. Netflix has yet to name a release date for the project, but it will presumably debut sometime this summer. The streamer is currently gearing up for the premiere of another Sony transplant, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, later this week.

The Vivo teaser doesn't do much to hint at the plot, but it does plunge viewers right into the energetic world at the center of the movie. The music already promises to be a highlight, and In the Heights fans especially might find themselves drawn to the soundtrack, as the two feel similar so far. Miranda has been attempting to get Vivo made for years now, and that it is finally going to be released must be exciting for him. As the film's premiere gets closer, a longer trailer will presumably make its way online. Until then, fans can enjoy the quick burst of song that arrives at the end of the teaser - it's pretty catchy.
