Shocker As 7 Doctors Get Kidnap Notice In Ekiti State

The Ekiti State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has said that seven doctors have received threats of kidnap from yet to be identified gunmen.

Dr John Akinbote, the state’s NMA chairman made this known to PM News correspondent in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

He said that the seven doctors received text messages from kidnappers, alerting them that they could be abducted anytime.

Meanwhile, the threats are coming a week after Dr Patrick Adegun, the former Chief Medical Director of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, and Margaret Aladenika, a nurse with Federal Teaching Hospital, were kidnapped.

It was learnt that Adegun and his wife Kikelomo, were abducted from their house located on Goshen Avenue, Federal Housing in Ado Ekiti metropolis.

In a related development, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Akure, called for overhauling of the security chiefs in the state.

The call was made in connection with the‘poor professional handling’of the abduction of a senior lecturer with the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ekiti state last week.

The kidnapped lecturer, Dr Femi Omisore, was kidnapped on May 6, 2015. The kidnappers shot his driver in the head and set his vehicle ablaze“for stressing the captors while being chased.”

The NMA and the ASUU accused the police and the state security service of not handling the matter in a professional manner.

Dr Alex Odiyia, zonal coordinator of ASUU, Akure, appealed to Governor Ayo Fayose, to take measures and get rid of the hoodlums in the state.

Reacting to the sudden spate of abductions, the governor promised to bring back the victims alive and stressed that he would not stop until peace returns to the state.
