Five Artists That Became Upcoming Artists After Leaving Their Labels
Five Artists That Became Upcoming Artists After Leaving Their Labels
Record labels play a major role in developing Artists in this part of the world majorly because independent artists lack proper management and the necessary funds to market their craft.
The Nigerian music industry has produced several top stars. Record labels like Mavin Records, YBNL, Marlian Music, Davido Music Worldwide, Aristokrat Records, Starboy Entertainment, etc have been able to discover and push new talents. G Worldwide, Empire Mates Entertainment, and others have discovered, developed, market a few talents, and even pathways with some of them.
Some of these artists even after pathing ways with their record labels have been able to maintain their grounds in the game while others have not been able to stand tall in the game.
5. Reekado Banks
Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, better known by his stage name Reekado Banks, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He signed with Mavin Records in 2014 and left the label in 2018. Ever since leaving the record label, Reekado Banks has dropped an extended play tagged "Off The Record" but still hasn't had much impact.
4. Davolee
Nigerian rapper, Davolee though claimed he wasn't signed to YBNL seems to have had a better career under the label's roof than he has had now since leaving the record label founded by Olamide in 2012.
3. Psquare
P-Square, the defunct Nigerian music duo consisting of the twin brothers, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye is another one. The brothers who co-owned the PSqare Records record label ended their partnership in 2017 and went solo as Mr P and Rudeboy.
Despite doing some worthy numbers across platforms, many still believe they are living below the Psquare standard and thus should be considered for a list like this.
2. Ycee
Former Tinny Entertainment rapper, Oludemilade Martin Alejo who is majorly known as YCee is another artist whose numbers have been hugely affected after dumping his record label in 2019. The rapper under Tiny Entertainment recorded so many hit songs before leaving the label in 2019 a year after selling out the O2 Academy Islington in 2018.
1. Mr 2Kay
Abinye David Jumbo who is popularly known as Mr 2Kay is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who was formally signed to Grafton Entertainment. The singer who enjoyed some level of fame under the Grafton umbrella has been struggling since leaving the label in 2018. Mr 2kay after recording another hit song 'God Can Bless Anybody' with his label mate, Idahams in 2018 left the label to launch his own record Better Life Entertainment label but has failed to make a huge impact.
