Starboy Entertainment boss, Ayo Balogun popularly known as Wizkid is one of the few Nigerians whose works have left a huge mark in the world as far as music is concerned.
The RCA recording artist, Wizkid who gained prominence in 2009 following the release of his single Holla at your boy dropped a solid body of work 'Made in Lagos' last year.
The 14-tracks album was released at the close of the 63rd Grammy calender and thus didn't stand a chance of getting nominated by the Recording Academy.
Nevertheless, Wizkid claimed his first Grammy awards on Sunday 14, 2021 with his contribution to Beyonce's Lion King: The Gift album. Wizkid teamed up with Beyonce, Saint JHN, and Blue Ivy on Brown Skin Girl off the soundtrack album. The singer performed on the audio and video of the song that won the Best Music Video category.
Wizkid who is yet to win the Best Global Album category Burnaa Boy won few days ago could be getting his first Grammy award for that category in no distant time.
1. Pedigree
Aside from having amazing materials to appease the judges, you need to have attained a certain level of career growth to claim this award. To a Nigerian man, Wizkid has paid his dues and thus isn't a new act to the organizers of grammy.
2. Fan base
Nobody will argue the statement that Wizkid has the most loyal fanbase in Africa. In fact, it is believed that Wizkid fans are the largest fans in Nigerian social media space. This alone is an advantage.
3. Excellent Material
I need not tell you that the 'Made in Lagos' album is doing awesome on streaming platgorms across the world. The album has gone 19 weeks on Billboard World Digital Album chart with its peak postion at No. 2. This hows how much this album has had on people since it's release.
4. Dedication
Wizkid's work rate is unmeasurable. His dedication is clearly seen in his consistency and growth. The Starboy boss seems to be on the peak of his career with so many coutries having a taste and appreciating his rare talent.
5. Collaboration
To me, Wizkid chose the best team for the Made in Lagos album. Indeed, the album shows how much good can come out of Nigeria's commercial city, Lagos. The collaborations with the producers and artistes like Damian Marley, Tems, H.E.R, Tay Iwar, etc all meets the Grammy standard.
