Port-Harcourt-born singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu mostly known as Burna Boy is the latest Grammy award-winning Nigerian artist.

Burna Boy who is arguably the hottest and most successful artist in Nigeria bagged his first-ever Grammys last weekend. On Sunday 14th March 2021, Burna Boy won the Best Global Album category at the 63rd Grammys's making him the first Nigerian afrobeat artist to win Grammys for that category.

Burna Boy became a force in the Nigerian music scene in 2012. He gained prominence with the release of singles Like to Party and Run My Race.

Burna Boy later joined Atlantic records in 2017 and Warner Music Group, Burna Boy won Grammys with his fifth studio album, 'Twice As Tall'. The album was executive produced by Diddy and features Sauti Sol, Stormzy, and others.

Burna Boy's determination is unmatched. He knew from the onset that he wanted to win a Grammy and worked towards it. Burna Boy lost his first Grammy nomination to veteran Beninese Singer, Angelique Kidjo in 2020 and didn't relent. He picked up himself from the floor and still went on to fight. This spirit is surely nothing but determination.

2.Dedication

Show me who is dedicated to his craft that isn't a winner. Burna Boy's dedication is clearly seen in his consistency. Dropping two albums in two years is the height of his consistency which is why artists like Olamide, Davido, and Fireboy DML amongst others are winners. It's not easy to compile two bodies of work in less than twenty-four months.

3. Collaboration

Like we know, nothing good comes without teamwork, Teamwork they say makes the dream work. Diddy coming in as an executive producer of Burna Boy's 'Twice as Tall' album played a significant role in him winning the Grammys.

4. Clout

Clout is needed for these kinds of things to happen. Grammy is a world-renowned music award show that just can't be given to anybody.
